These are dog grooming MYTHS you should know about. Don't make these Dog grooming mistakes. There are many myths when it comes to dog grooming and in this video…we are going to shut them down! We want the very best for our dogs and if we are armed with the right knowledge, we can keep them safe and healthy through our dog grooming practices and routines. Obviously, dog grooming methods have changed significantly over the years due to improved tools and equipment, as well as tried and true practices that eliminate old ones. We have also gained more understanding of a dog's skin and coat over the years as compared to our ancestors. But some of that old, outdated advice is still finding its way into our conversations these days when talking about grooming dogs. Myth #1: Shaving a double-coated dog such as a Golden Retriever, Pomeranian, Husky, or even a Labrador Retriever, keeps them cooler. Myth #2: It is possible to recede the Qwik in your dog's toenails and retrain the nail to become shorter. Myth #3: Back brushing against the lay of your dog’s coat is the best way to remove dead and shedding undercoat. (Back brushing is in the direction of the tail to the head) Myth #4: Short-coated dogs such as Pugs, Boxers, Bulldogs, or even Jack Russels do not require grooming. Only dogs that continuously grow coats require Grooming. Myth #5: Conditioning your dog, after shampooing only weighs down the coat and adds an excessive amount of time and the drying process. Myth #6: This one is one of my favorites… Some dogs have hair, not fur. Humans have hair, and dogs have fur. Myth #7: Gentle shampoos made for humans are safe to use on dogs such as baby shampoo. Myth #8: This one, I have heard on social media posts and have even had clients over the years ask me if it is true. Groom your dog like a Professional...here are My SECRET Steps to GROOM ANY DOG! The Idea is to always perform the steps of a groom in the same order no matter what breed or coat type you are grooming. This eliminates the possibility of you forgetting or skipping a step. Today I will share with you the exact steps I follow every day for every groom…and have put it all together in a demo that is easy to follow. Here are the order and steps I follow to avoid dog grooming clipping mistakes. • Clipper work first! All body, head, and leg clipping first...meaning if I use an "A" comb over a #30 blade....I complete all the clipping with that blade. • Next, I may use a larger snap-on comb on the head and cheeks. So I will switch to that blade or comb and complete all clipping with that comb. Hint...you can use either a 10, 15 or 30 blade under your guard combs • I use a # 10 under my attachment combs which makes it easy when it's time for my #10 blade work...corner of eyes, sanitary, armpits, and ear lobes..which is the next step for clipper work. • The last step of clipper work is to shave the pads of the feet...I use a detachable #30 blade for this step with my Wahl km 10 clipper but you can use a 10, 15 or 30 blade or use your 5 in 1 clipper for this step. IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?!? DOG grooming clipper blades and comb attachments-what is the difference? How to properly use them? How to groom your dog like a professional! I put a demo together for you to demonstrate using snap on combs. I’ll be trimming a large Labradoodle named Diesel. I want to make sure you understand you cannot use snap on combs to give your dog a hair cut if you have not properly prepared your dogs coat for trimming. This demo will show you exactly how to do that my friends! Clipper comb attachments cannot stand up to clipper blades when it comes to trimming dog breeds with thicker coats such as Cocker Spaniels, Poodles, Doodles and a lot of our favorite mixed breed dogs. If your dog has a matted coat or an abundance of dead coat your will find using snap on comb attachments is not an option. They will not get through the coat and will snag and get caught in the tangles. Which leaves you only two options…To use a clipper blade that is short enough to get between the skin and the mats or De-mat your dogs coat prior to attempting to clip it. De-matting is not something most novice groomers are capable of achieving successfully…. as this method takes years of practice and know how to safely accomplish a perfectly prepared coat for clipping. It is not easy to groom your dogs hair without proper training. In fact, most people don’t even have the proper tools, let alone understanding how to use them correctly. Any tools you can use to make it easier to give your dog a good looking hair cut is something of value to you and your pet. The only downside to grooming with snap on combs, is that they may not leave the coat as long as you’d like it to be. The largest size guard combs in the wahl set is a 1 inch. IF you desire longer length of coat than that, you will have to learn to freehand cut…which is hand scissor trimming. The clipping technique is the same when using a blade or a guard comb. Blades leave a smoother finish where guard combs leave a little texture to the hair. In this video we start with dog grooming for beginners.
