Special Thanks to Neema Paxima Persianفارسی (fārsi) Native to: Iran, Afghanistan (as Dari), Tajikistan (as Tajik) Uzbekistan (as Tajik), Iraq, Russia, Azerbaijan Native speakers: 70 million (110 million total speakers) Language family: Indo-European (Indo-Iranian) , is a Western Iranian language belonging to the Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian subdivision of the Indo-European languages. It is a pluricentric language predominantly spoken and used officially within Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan in three mutually intelligible standard varieties, namely Iranian Persian, Dari Persian (officially named Dari since 1958) and Tajiki Persian (officially named Tajik since the Soviet era). It is also spoken natively in the Tajik variety by a significant population within Uzbekistan, as well as within other regions with a Persianate history in the cultural sphere of Greater Iran. It is written officially within Iran and Afghanistan in the Persian alphabet, a derivation of the Arabic script, and within Tajikistan in the Tajik alphabet, a derivation of Cyrillic. The Persian language is a continuation of Middle Persian, the official religious and literary language of the Sasanian Empire (224–651 CE), itself a continuation of Old Persian, which was used in the Achaemenid Empire (550–330 BC). It originated in the region of Fars (Persia) in southwestern Iran. Its grammar is similar to that of many European languages. Throughout history, Persian has been a prestigious cultural language used by various empires in Western Asia, Central Asia, and South Asia. Old Persian written works are attested in Old Persian cuneiform on several inscriptions from between the 6th and the 4th centuries BC, and Middle Persian literature is attested in Aramaic-derived scripts (Pahlavi and Manichaean) on inscriptions from the time of the Parthian Empire and in books centered in Zoroastrian and Manichaean scriptures from between the 3rd to the 10th century AD. New Persian literature began to flourish after the Arab invasion of Iran with its earliest records from the 9th century, since then adopting the Arabic script. Persian was the first language to break through the monopoly of Arabic on writing in the Muslim world, with the writing of Persian poetry developed as a court tradition in many eastern courts. Some of the famous works of medieval Persian literature are the Shahnameh of Ferdowsi, the works of Rumi, the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, the Panj Ganj of Nizami Ganjavi, the Divān of Hafez, The Conference of the Birds by Attar of Nishapur, and the miscellanea of Gulistan and Bustan by Saadi Shirazi. Persian has left a considerable influence on its neighboring languages, including other Iranian languages, the Turkic languages, Armenian, Georgian and the Indo-Aryan languages (especially Urdu). It also exerted some influence on Arabic, while borrowing vocabulary from it under medieval Arab rule. The Persian language was the chosen official language for bureaucracy even among those who were not native speakers, for example the Turks in the Ottoman Empire, or the Pashtuns in Afghanistan who preferred it over their native tongue Pashto before the 20th century. There are approximately 110 million Persian speakers worldwide, including Persians, Tajiks, Hazaras, Caucasian Tats and Aimaqs. The term Persophone might also be used to refer to a speaker of Persian.
This video is to help those who are learning Persian and are struggling to find the resources of spoken Persian by real native Persian speakers and not textbook audio clips. Cheers.

Like other Old Iranian languages, it was known to its native speakers as ariya (Iranian). Old Persian appears primarily in the inscriptions, clay tablets and seals of the Achaemenid era (c. 600 BCE to 300 BCE). Examples of Old Persian have been found in what is now Iran, Romania (Gherla), Armenia, Bahrain, Iraq, Turkey and Egypt, with the most important attestation by far being the contents of the Behistun Inscription (dated to 525 BCE). Recent research (2007) into the vast Persepolis Fortification Archive at the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago unearthed Old Persian tablets, which suggest Old Persian was a written language in use for practical recording and not only for royal display. 🤍 This video was made for educational purposes only. In this video, we compare some of the similarities between Greek and Persian, two ancient Indo-European languages, with one, Greek, being classified as Hellenic, while Persian is classified as a Western Iranian language. Greek has a written record of over 3,000 years, easily making it the oldest documented Indo-European language. The Greek alphabet, originating from the Phoenician script, was the basis of numerous other scripts, such as Latin, Cyrillic, Coptic, Gothic, and Armenian. The Greek language has virtually impacted other languages in every corner of the world, being an important component of Western civilization, the Christian religion, and the language of some of the fundamental texts of science, astronomy, and mathematics. The Greek language today holds official status in Greece and Cyprus, and is recognized as a minority language in Albania, Armenia, Hungary, Italy, Romania, and Ukraine. The Persian language (Farsi) is also an ancient language which has had a huge amount of impact on other languages and cultures, mainly the Middle East, as well as Central and South Asia. Classified as one of the Western Iranian languages, Persian holds official status is Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Persian has strongly influenced many different languages, including numerous Turkic languages, as well as well as Armenian, Georgian, and many languages in the Indian subcontinent. Persian has a long history of literature and it was notable for being the first language in the Muslim world to break through Arabic's monopoly on writing. The Persian language has also influenced the Arabic language, although the impact of Arabic on Persian has been higher. But the influence of Persian in the Muslim world has been strong since the early days of Islam. It was even established as a court tradition instead of Arabic under many ruling Muslim dynasties. Greeks and Persians have had a long history of contact, dating back to the antiquity when the Persian Empire had control over the modern-day Greece, which they would eventually lose during the Greco-Persian wars. The Persians and Greeks would become enemies and later establish a positive relation since Alexander the Great admired Persian culture and aimed to create a mixture of Greek and Persian culture.

Can Iranians understand Middle Persian, the Sassanid Era (3rd-7th Century) Persian language? آیا ایرانیان فارسی میانه یا پهلوی (زبان فارسی دوره ساسانیان) را متوجه میشوند؟ Middle Persian (Pahlavi) was the official language of the Sassanid Empire (ساسانیان), who referred to themselves as the "Empire of Iranians", locally called Iranshahr (ایرانشهر). For over 4 centuries they ruled over a vast territory which at its greatest extent encompassed most of the Middle East, Anatolia, and the Caucasus, and stretched into North Africa, Central Asia, and parts of present-day India and China. Middle Persian is also known by its endonym Pārsīk or Pārsīg (𐭯𐭠𐭫𐭮𐭩𐭪) and is descended from Old Persian, the language of the Achaemenid Empire. In this video, Pouya will read several sentences in Middle Persian, while Mahya and Naghmeh (Persian speakers from Iran) will see how well they can understand. Mahya's YouTube channel: 🤍mahyapolyglot655 Mahya's Instagram: 🤍 Naghmeh's Instagram: 🤍 If you speak a language that we have not featured before and would like to participate in a future video please follow and message us on Instagram: 🤍 The Sassanid Empire collapsed during the early Muslim conquests in the 7th century, and with it Middle Persian evolved into modern Persian. This change was, however, very gradual and for a centuries after the fall of the Sassanids, Middle Persian was still in use. But by the 10th century, Middle Persian was only used by Zoroastrian priests for religious purposes and the language used by locals had experienced significant changes, such as the change of the initial "w" sounds to either "b" or "g", changes in the verbal system, Arabic loanwords replacing many Aramaic loanwords and native Persian terms, as well as the substitution of the Arabic script for Pahlavi Middle Persian script, a change which was actually initiated by a native Iranian dynasty, the Tahirids. For some time after the Sasanian collapse, Middle Persian continued to function as a prestige language. It descended from Old Persian, the language of the Achaemenid Empire and is the linguistic ancestor of Modern Persian, the official language of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. "Middle Iranian" is the name given to the middle stage of development of the numerous Iranian languages and dialects. The middle stage of the Iranian languages begins around 450 BCE and ends around 650 CE. One of those Middle Iranian languages is Middle Persian, i.e. the middle stage of the language of the Persians, an Iranian people of Persia proper, which lies in the south-western highlands on the border with Babylonia. The Persians called their language Parsik, meaning "Persian". Another Middle Iranian language was Parthian, i.e. the language of the northwestern Iranian peoples of Parthia proper, which lies along the southern/south-eastern edge of the Caspian sea and is adjacent to the boundary between western and eastern Iranian languages. The Parthians called their language Parthawik, meaning "Parthian". Via regular sound changes Parthawik became Pahlawik, from which the word 'Pahlavi' eventually evolved. The -ik in parsik and parthawik was a regular Middle Iranian appurtenant suffix for "pertaining to". The New Persian equivalent of -ik is -i. The Iranian languages are grouped in three stages: Old Iranian (until 400 BCE), Middle Iranian (400 BCE–900 CE) and New Iranian (since 900 CE). The two directly-attested Old Iranian languages are Old Persian (from the Achaemenid Empire) and Old Avestan (the language of the Avesta). Of the Middle Iranian languages, the better understood and recorded ones are Middle Persian (from the Sasanian Empire), Parthian (from the Parthian Empire), and Bactrian (from the Kushan and Hephthalite empires). As of 2008, there were an estimated 150–200 million native speakers of the Iranian languages. Ethnologue estimates that there are 86 languages in the group, with the largest among them being Persian (Farsi, Dari, and Tajik dialects), Pashto, Kurdish, Luri, and Balochi. Today we try the language challenge Urdu Vs Persian (Farsi) and came across many similarities between the two languages. This maybe due to the fact that both Urdu and Persian are classified as Indo-European languages. In this edition of the language challenge, Shahrzad (Persian speaker) and Ivonnne (German speaker) challenge each other with a list of words between the two languages. As you will notice from the title of this video, unlike most of our other works, this isn't supposed to be a "similarities" video. In fact, some of the words are completely different in the other language. This video is merely a challenge, some words are similar of course, but some aren't. This was the first ever language video we did where we just tried to apply the vision we had. It got us started and gave us new ideas.

Please turn on Captions (subtitles), to see these translation on the video (Go to Settings to change them). - 1) by Manouchehr Kouhestani: Come! Your love hath set my wits astray, Once a fair town, I'm now in disarray; From home and kin, your love hath made me part, To dwell within the house of aching heart. Inert, I was, too shamed to speak thereof, Yet, at your sight, I found my life's true love; I saw our souls were kindred, pure and true, From kith and kin, I've strayed, dear one, for you. I read of lovers' tales both night and day, And now, in love with you, I am the play. * By all the lives of drunkards, I do swear, I am besotted, ruthless love, beware; Upon the soul of every myrmidon, A kindred spirit, now I am become. By souls emancipated, I declare, In this sweet potion, freedom's in the air; As learned scribe, like Mercury, I'd fare, O'er scholars all, with ink and slate to bear. But when the wine-bearer's brow came into view, I drowned in drink, and all my quills I threw. * Thou bid'st me tear the veil of honour's claim, And so, obedient, I forsook its fame; Thou bid'st me shatter chalices, and hence, I left my friends to bind my heart to thine embrace. - 2) by JZ Come! For in your love I have lost my mind. Once a city, now I am a ruin. From your love I moved out of my home, left my family. Now my bedmate is the pain of longing. Never mind how passive I was before I saw you. Now I’m a real man. When I saw how sweetly our souls were related I became a stranger to my own family. Day and night I consumed the tales of lovers, Now consumed by your love, I am the tale. I swear on the souls of all holy drunkards, I am drunk on your love! O Beloved, take my hand. I swear by all who risk their lives for God, I am life. I swear on the souls of the freed, I am free! I trailed after books like Mercy after the sun. I ranked high among intellectuals. When I saw what was written on the Wine-bearer’s face I broke all pens in my drunken frenzy. You commanded, rip the veil; I ripped it! You commanded, break the chalice; I broke it! You commanded I cut ties with my friends. I left all and bound myself to you. - Persian lyrics transliterated in English: selected lines from Ghazal 1499 beeyā kaz eshq'e to deevāne gashtam vagar shahree bodam veerāne gashtam ze eshq'e to ze khān'o mān boreedam be dard'e eshq'e to hamkhāne gashtam chenān kāhel bodam kān rā nagooyam cho deedam rooy'e to mardāne gashtam cho kheesh'e jān'e khod jān'e to deedam ze kheeshān bahr'e to beegāne gashtam fasāney āsheqān khāndam shab'o rooz konoon dar eshq'e to afsāne gashtam selected lines from Ghazal 1497 be jān'e jomle'ye mastān ke mastam begeer ey delbar'e ayyār dastam be jān'e jomle jān-bazān ke jānam be jān'e rastgārān'ash ke rastam atārod-vār daftar-bāre boodam zebardast'e adeebān meeneshastam cho deedam loh'e peeshānee'ye sāqee shodam mast'o qalam-hā rā shekastam selected lines from Ghazal 1496 marā goftee bedar parde dareedam marā goftee qadah beshkan shekastam marā goftee bebor az jomle yārān bekandam az hame del bar to bastam

Hi my friends. I teach the names of different #days in Persian. #Today, #yesterday, #tomorrow, #tonight, the day before yesterday and the day after tomorrow. What other words did you learn in this video? Write them in the comments below. - Salam my dear friends. This is Dr. Maede, PhD in Linguistics and a university professor. I am a native speaker of Farsi. I was born and grown up in Iran. I was so talented for learning languages and literature and studied English Literature. I got my B.A. in English language and literature from Isfahan University. I liked to know more about Persian and English languages, so I decided to have further studies in Linguistic field. Then I chose Linguistics. I got my M.A. and PhD. in Linguistic from Bu-Ali Sina University of Hamedan (2020). Because I loved teaching Persian, I got my second M.A. degree in teaching Persian to non-Native speakers of Persian. As I love Persian poetry and Persian language, I wrote my M.A and PhD thesis about the metrics of Persian language and Iranian languages. Persian is easy and sweet in Persian Land! Learn Persian language through dialogues, Persian poetry, Persian taarof and Iranian culture. I provide Persian language resources to help you learn this sweet language in informal/ short forms. I teach colloquial Persian, so you can learn Farsi Language as a native speaker of Farsi. I also teach at university and I like my students. I have been teaching many subjects in different universities 2013. The subjects include Linguistic as well as Literature subjects. If you like to seem like native speakers of Persian, follow my clips and make sure to subscribe my channel. I have great ideas to teach.
