NVIDIA researchers have developed an #AI pipeline, known as the Neural Reconstruction Engine, that constructs a 3D scene from recorded sensor data in NVIDIA DRIVE Sim. First demonstrated at #GTC22, these AI tools bring the real world directly in simulation to increase realism and speed up #autonomousvehicle production. NRE uses multiple AI networks to create interactive 3D test environments where developers can modify the scene and see how the world reacts. Developers can change scenarios, add synthetic objects, and apply randomizations—such as a child following a bouncing ball into the road—making the initial scenarios even more challenging.

02.05.2023

The Apple M1 chip has been making waves in the computing world due to its impressive performance and energy efficiency. One of the major components that contribute to its special capabilities is the Neural Engine. In this video, we'll dive deeper into the Neural Engine of the M1 and M2 chips and how it improves MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMacs in 2023. The Neural Engine is a dedicated chip that is integrated into the both M1 and M2 chips. It is designed to accelerate machine learning tasks, which require massive amounts of data processing and pattern recognition. This makes the M1 and M2 chips ideal for tasks such as image and speech recognition, natural language processing, and computer vision. The Neural Engine consists of multiple cores that work in parallel, each capable of performing a large number of calculations simultaneously. This allows the chip to perform machine learning tasks faster and more efficiently than traditional CPUs. One of the key features of the Neural Engine is its ability to perform inference tasks, which involve using trained models to make predictions or classifications based on new data. This allows the chip to perform complex tasks such as facial recognition and object detection in real-time. The Neural Engine also features a variety of specialized hardware components that are optimized for specific machine learning tasks. The engine includes a Matrix Multiply Unit that is specifically designed to perform matrix multiplication, a key operation in many machine learning algorithms. Another key component of the Neural Engine is the Memory Engine, which is responsible for managing the chip's memory access. The Memory Engine is designed to be highly efficient and reduce the amount of data that needs to be transferred between different parts of the chip, which helps to minimize energy consumption and improve performance. The Neural Engine is also integrated with Apple's Core ML framework, which provides a range of tools and APIs that developers can use to create machine learning applications for the M1 chip. This allows developers to easily take advantage of the chip's capabilities without needing to have extensive knowledge of machine learning algorithms and techniques. One of the most impressive features of the Neural Engine is its ability to perform on-device machine learning, which means that machine learning tasks can be performed directly on the device without needing to send data to a remote server for processing. This provides several benefits, including faster processing times, improved privacy and security, and reduced network bandwidth requirements. In summary, the Neural Engine is a critical component of both M1and M2 chips that enables the chip to perform complex machine learning tasks faster and more efficiently than traditional CPUs. With its specialized hardware components and integration with Apple's Core ML framework, the Neural Engine provides developers with the tools they need to create powerful machine learning applications for the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac. Stay tuned for more updates on the release of Apple's M1 and M2.

What are the neurons, why are there layers, and what is the math underlying it? Help fund future projects: 🤍 Written/interactive form of this series: 🤍 Additional funding for this project provided by Amplify Partners Typo correction: At 14 minutes 45 seconds, the last index on the bias vector is n, when it's supposed to in fact be a k. Thanks for the sharp eyes that caught that! For those who want to learn more, I highly recommend the book by Michael Nielsen introducing neural networks and deep learning: 🤍 There are two neat things about this book. First, it's available for free, so consider joining me in making a donation Nielsen's way if you get something out of it. And second, it's centered around walking through some code and data which you can download yourself, and which covers the same example that I introduce in this video. Yay for active learning! 🤍 I also highly recommend Chris Olah's blog: 🤍 For more videos, Welch Labs also has some great series on machine learning: 🤍 🤍 For those of you looking to go *even* deeper, check out the text "Deep Learning" by Goodfellow, Bengio, and Courville. 🤍 This side-by-side comparison shows how it dramatically improves video quality for slow motion editing cuts using artificial intelligence. The left image is a 4 K clip at 25 FPS which has been slowed down to 20% of the original frame rate or 5 FPS. Obviously this is not usable. The center image shows the result of applying Optical Flow to the clip on the left. Optical Flow. Optical Flow, therefore, interpolates 20 of the 25 frames. That is quite a feat! And the video motion is perfectly smooth. Of course, you can see that not all of the video is correct. Some objects like the car windows and the taxi sign & mirror, are distorted and wobbly. The image on the right shows the result of applying Speed Warp to the center image. Speed Warp uses Blackmagic Design's Neural image to correct distortion in the video clip. In this clip, you can see, even when looking closely, that the previously distorted elements are improved dramatically. By combining Optical Flow and Speed Warp to a slow motion clip, it is possible to use slow motion from scenes where it would have been impossible before. Optical Flow is a GPU accelerated effect. Speed Warp is GPU accelerated using NVIDIA's Tensor Cores to apply the AI in Blackmagic Designs Neural Engine.

This is achieved with a combination of algorithmic and system level innovations. Our appearance model utilizes learned hierarchical textures that are interpreted using neural decoders, which produce reflectance values and importance-sampled directions. To best utilize the modeling capacity of the decoders, we equip the decoders with two graphics priors. The first prior—transformation of directions into learned shading frames—facilitates accurate reconstruction of mesoscale effects. The second prior—a microfacet sampling distribution—allows the neural decoder to perform importance sampling efficiently. The resulting appearance model supports anisotropic sampling and level-of-detail rendering, and allows baking deeply layered material graphs into a compact unified neural representation. By exposing hardware accelerated tensor operations to ray tracing shaders, we show that it is possible to inline and execute the neural decoders efficiently inside a real-time path tracer. We analyze scalability with increasing number of neural materials and propose to improve performance using code optimized for coherent and divergent execution. Our neural material shaders can be over an order of magnitude faster than non-neural layered materials. This opens up the door for using film-quality visuals in real-time applications such as games and live previews. 1 INTRODUCTION Recent progress in rendering algorithms, light transport methods, and ray tracing hardware have pushed the limits of image quality that can be achieved in real time. However, progress in real-time material models has noticeably lagged behind. While deeply layered materials and sophisticated node graphs are commonplace in offline rendering, such approaches are often far too costly to be used in real-time applications. Aside from computational cost, sophisticated materials pose additional challenges for importance sampling and filtering: highly detailed materials will alias severely under minification, and the complex multi-lobe reflectance of layered materials causes high variance if not sampled properly. Recent work in neural appearance modelling [Kuznetsov et al. 2022; Sztrajman et al. 2021; Zheng et al. 2021] has shown that multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) can be an effective tool for appearance modelling, importance sampling, and filtering. Nevertheless, these models do not support film-quality appearance; a scalable solution that can handle high-fidelity visuals at real time has yet to be demonstrated. In this paper, we set our goal accordingly: to render film-quality materials, such as those used in the #VFX industry, in real time. These materials prioritize realism and visual fidelity, relying on very high-resolution textures. Layering of reflectance components, rather than an uber-shader, is used to generate material appearance yielding arbitrary BRDF combinations with hundreds of parameters. For these reasons, porting to real-time application is challenging. In order to render film-quality appearance in real time we i) carefully cherry-pick components from prior works, ii) introduce algorithmic innovations, and iii) develop a scalable solution for inlining neural networks in the innermost rendering loop, both for classical rasterization and path tracing. We choose to forgo editability in favor of performance, effectively “baking” the reference material into a neural texture interpreted by neural networks. Our model can thus be viewed as an optimized representation for fast rendering, which is baked (via optimization) after editing has taken place.

I am curious why the SEP (Secure Enclave Processor) firmware decryption key of the iPhone XR has been leaked for more than a year and no one has disclosed the machine learning model of FaceID. After I reverse engineered SEP, I found that SEP does include all the FaceID software logic including facial feature comparison. Even the iv and key used to decrypt the parameters of the FaceID neural network are stored in the SEP firmware in plaintext... By: Wish Wu Full Abstract & Presentation Materials: 🤍

Apple has recently released updated "Premium" versions of their normal Text-To-Speech voices. Sadly third party apps can't use their Neural Engine voices but these Premium TTS voices is as good as it gets when it comes to normal Text-To-Speech. Voice Dream Reader is an app that you can use Apple's Premium TTS voices with, so I decided to do a comparison between the Neural Engine Voices that you can use in for example Amazon Kindle App or Apple Books, with the new Apple Premium voices that you can use in for example Voice Dream Reader. Personally I think the Neural Engine Voices is much better and more natural sounding, but be able to use at least Apple's Premium Voices in Voice Dream Reader is good when you want to turn an eBook into an Audiobook to listen at when you can't read or you don't want to read yourself.
